A Family History of Furniture Making

Clarecraft Jarrah was established in April of 1974, where its owner’s Bill & Carmel Clare quickly established a reputation for quality in the manufacture of jarrah gates and patio furniture for local markets in Perth.

Over the years Clarecraft evolved into one of the most prestigious furniture companies in Australia. Operating out of a 5000 square meter factory in Maddington with a workforce of over 60 people, Clarecraft’s name has been synonymous with designing export quality furniture which has graced fashion houses and markets in Belgium, Denmark, Greece, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Mexico, Middle East, New Zealand, The Netherlands, Turkey, Sweden, United Kingdom and the USA.

In February 1999 Australia Furniture was formed as an initiative by Wesfarmers through its subsidiary Bunning’s, to encourage the production of export quality furniture utilizing natural feature grade jarrah. Two of Australis’s founding companies, Clarecraft and Fremantle Furniture Factory developed a range of bedroom furniture utilising the endearing qualities of the beautiful durable timber from our south-west.

Today the second generation of the Clare family continues the tradition of furniture making with its unique brand of bedroom furniture, manufactured in Australia using only Australian native timber.

Craftmanship

At Clarecraft, we make our furniture using the age old practices of mortice & tenon joinery and dovetail drawer, we also utilise the latest in CNC technology to create detailed shapes and flexibility in design.

All beds are fitted with either jarrah or pine bed slats and a metal centre spine to stop the mattress from sagging. Due to the heavy weight of jarrah, our beds are constructed using mortice & tenon joinery ensuring that there are no unsightly gaps and that joints are flush.

All cabinets have dovetailed drawers on metal runners, with our premium range offering full extension heavily rated runners. Drawers are made from solid jarrah sides with jarrah veneered bases.

We believe that if you are going to buy a premium product, then there should be no shortcomings. If you buy a jarrah suite, it must have jarrah drawer boxes and jarrah slat bases, be aware that others may copy our product, but none will go to this detail. It is for this reason that we engrave our product with our name and logo on the foot end of the bed and the inside of the drawer box and then back this up with a 5 year “workmanship only” guarantee on our whole range.

Jarrah

We only use natural feature grade timber from re-growth native jarrah forests. In the past few years the amount of jarrah allowed to be logged has been reduced to a third of what was available in 2003. At Clarecraft we have a strong commitment to the environment and believe that we have a responsibility to showcase the glorious features of nature’s elements in its timber. Your furniture will include gum veins, epicores, splash and an array of feature which compliment the timber.

Remember no one piece of timber is the same, so these feature will vary in length and size from piece to piece.

Jarrah is rated in the top 5 most durable timbers in the world; these features will not affect the structural integrity of the product.
